The tip of the laser is chilled to protect the outermost layer of the skin and to prevent any kind of adverse reactions. What to Expect
During the session, patients may feel a slight pin prick sensation, but ultimately the treatment is comfortable. When treatment is done, the veins will appear red and swollen (resembling cat scratches). This response is normal and a positive clinical end point. Although rare, bruising may be a possible side effect. It is helpful to elevate the legs for 24 – 48 hours after the procedure and to wear compression socks. Multiple treatments are typically recommended due to the fact that there is a main "feeder" vein that acts like a trunk of a tree and the spider veins are simply the "branches." Veins should get smaller and less noticeable with each treatment, but the amount of treatments needed vary with each patient.

Best Candidates?
Patients who are good candidates for laser vein treatment therapy have visible veins on their body, including the thighs and lower legs, that cause them to avoid shorts and swimsuits out of embarrassment. Patients should be in good general health before the procedure and should tell their doctor if they have a history of blood clots or may be pregnant.
How Soon Will I See Results?
Some results can usually be seen immediately after treatment. However, it is not uncommon for the treated veins to remain visible for 3 – 6 weeks before dissipating. This is due to residual clotted blood in the vessel. A red scab may form under the skin. It may appear for a few weeks and then will be reabsorbed by the body. This is normal and a sign that the treatment is working.
What To Do Before a Session?
Patients should disclose any medical conditions or medications that are being taken. Patients should also avoid the use of self-tanning lotions, tanning booths, and sun bathing at least two weeks prior to a laser treatment. Before a laser vein treatment of the legs, patients should shave the area and not apply lotion to their legs on day of their appointment. For a facial vein treatment, patients should shave any facial hair just before their appointment.
