Aging, gravity, and significant weight loss are the most common reasons people develop loose skin on their body, but this can be improved with a surgical lift like a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty). A reverse tummy tuck (upper abdominoplasty) can be very helpful for patients who are concerned about excess skin and fat rolls on their upper stomach. Commonly known as "bra fat pads," this excess skin just below the breasts are especially prominent when a person is sitting. The reverse tummy tuck can also help patients who have a tummy tuck or had liposuction in their stomach, but may not be satisfied with their results due to scar tissue forming at the incision site or excess skin that has developed over time. Board-certified plastic surgeons Dr. Natan Yaker and Board Eligible Dr. Jaime Haidenberg are pleased to offer the reverse tummy tuck procedure at their practice, Cosmetic Surgery Associates of Texas in Dallas.

"Absolutely Love the Results! - Had my tummy tuck performed a month ago and absolutely love the work done by Dr. Haidenberg. He is very professional and the nurses and stuff and very friendly. I wish I hadn't waited so long after my last child to get this done. My tummy is flat and I was able to walk upright by the second week. I am extremely satisfied with the results and would definitely go back for other procedures if needed in the future."- F. / RealSelf / Aug 29, 2020
"My Gratifying Experience with Dr. Natan Yaker, Plano, TX - I'm 50 years young and for all of my life, I've lived with huge sagging unattractive breast, that I was ashamed of. I did nothing to cause this, but be born with bad genes. I struggled for many years considering a breast reduction and breast lifts. I had previously had a tummy tuck over 10 years ago with another surgeon, where my results were less than desirable. So, I was hesitant and afraid of having a similar experience. I discussed my fears and concerns with my close friend RJ. She was a great source to talk to because a few years ago she had breasts implants and she was ecstatic with her results. So after many discussions with RJ, I finally took her advice and called her surgeon Dr. Yaker. I could tell you, I had the surgery, because the large size of my breasts hurt my neck and my back, but the simple truth is, I wanted to look better. I knew if I looked better, I'd feel better about myself. From my first phone conversation with his staff, I felt at ease and comfortable. His staff was pleasant and efficient, booking my consultation appointment immediately. Once at my consultation, I was greeted by Sheri at the front desk. She was pleasant and eager to assist me with my patient forms. Within minutes I was in Dr. Yaker's office. He was very kind and patient, but more than that, he listened to what I wanted. Then he discussed my expectations and gave me honest feedback. I even told him about my tummy tuck and I wanted to have another because I was unsatisfied with the first one. He and his nurse, Kristen looked over and viewed my tummy tuck incisions, and the first thing he said was, "Well, you don't need another tummy tuck, maybe some liposuction, but that would be all you'd need in this area". I was shocked and relieved because my original surgeon advised me I would need a second tummy tuck. Dr. Yaker could have been like most surgeons and simply took my money for a surgery I didn't truly need and penciled me in, but instead he was honest. There was no greed or selfish intent behind his consult. That's the type of surgeon you want. An honest one. He is the best. His bedside manner is impeccable. I love him and his staff. So, I had a breast reduction in October 2019, that Dr. Yaker performed.I healed in about 3 to 4 months and I've been healthy and happy every since. I highly recommend Dr. Yaker in Plano. He's awesome. Jackie J."- J. / RealSelf / Sep 08, 2020

To perform the reverse tummy tuck surgery, Dr. Yaker or Dr. Haidenberg will make either a single W-shaped incision or two smaller incisions in the natural creases between the bottom of the breasts (the inframammary fold). Once the incision is made, excess skin will be removed and light liposuction may be performed on stubborn pockets of fat to create a smooth result. The remaining skin will be pulled tight and Dr. Yaker or Dr. Haidenberg will suture the incision closed.
The reverse tummy tuck is performed as an outpatient surgery with the patient under general anesthesia. The surgery usually lasts about 2 – 3 hours at Dr. Yaker's on-site surgical facility, which is accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF). After an observation period, the patient will be allowed to leave to recover at home. Patients should schedule a follow-up appointment with Dr. Yaker about 2 weeks after their surgery so he can assess their recovery and results. Most patients will need about 4 – 6 weeks to recover from their procedure, but many are able to return to sedentary jobs and perform light activities within a few weeks.
During each patient's consultation, Dr. Yaker or Dr. Haidenberg will be able to create a custom treatment plan based on the patient's needs and goals. This treatment plan will also help Dr. Yaker or Dr. Haidenberg estimate the cost for each patient. On average, the reverse tummy tuck costs around $7,000 – 8,000, but this will vary with each patient.

Reverse Tummy Tuck FAQs
Reverse, Full, or Mini?
There are many abdominoplasty techniques available today, including full, mini, extended, and reverse tummy tucks, so Dr. Yaker or Dr. Haidenberg will help each patient determine the best surgery for their needs. During the initial consultation, Dr. Yaker or Dr. Haidenberg will listen to the patient's concerns and goals while also examining the patient's stomach before discussing his recommendations. Each patient will receive a custom treatment plan that will achieve their best results.
Patients should wear a post-surgical compression garment that will help support their core while they regain their strength and improve their blood circulation for better healing. After surgery, patients should allow their body to rest and heal, but short walks throughout the recovery period are encouraged.
What About Scarring?
Since the incision is made below the breasts in a natural crease, the scar should be almost invisible if the patient follows their scar care instructions after the surgery. Dr. Yaker or Dr. Haidenberg will go over how to clean the incision and other suggestions that will help the scar heal, so that it better blends with the normal skin.
Correcting a Tummy Tuck?
Some patients who have had liposuction on the stomach or a tummy tuck may develop concerns with their results because of scar tissue that forms. The reverse tummy tuck can improve the appearance of this scar tissue so patients can get the results they want. Other patients benefit from a reverse tummy tuck years after their initial tummy tuck when natural aging, gravity, and weight fluctuations have caused excess skin in the upper abdomen.
