Women that become pregnant, and lose and gain weight, may notice an enlargement of the “mound” that exists in the pubic area. This soft, rounded mound is known as the mons pubis and is made up of soft tissue located just above the female genitalia. Aging, childbirth and weight loss can change the look of this area and result in an enlarged mound. For some women, this enlargement can create problems and protrude through clothes, as well as interfere with sexual intercourse. This unsightly feature can be removed with a surgical pubic lift, which entails liposuction to remove the fatty tissue, as well as a skin tightening lift to create a flat, smooth pubic appearance.
Pubic Lift Reviews
During a pubic lift, incisions are made along the natural crease of the groin. This is so that after surgery and once the incisions have healed, scarring will be minimal. It is important to note that not all patients will require the actual lift (and skin removal), some may need just liposuction. However, for patients who have lost a significant amount of weight, skin removal is often necessary to attain the desired results. During surgery, liposuction is performed first through the incisions to remove the fatty tissue and isolated fat deposits. Next, any excess skin that exists will be trimmed away and tightened so that the pubic area lies flat and firm. Sutures will close the incisions. In some cases, this procedure is performed along with a tummy tuck. In addition, labiaplasty (or labia rejuvenation) is another procedure that is commonly performed simultaneously with a pubic lift.
During/After the Procedure
A pubic lift is an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia. If performed alone, it can take about 1-2 hours to complete. If the surgery is combined with another lower body contouring procedure, such as a tummy tuck, the surgery will last longer. Patients will experience mild swelling and discomfort in the days following surgery, and they may also have trouble walking, sitting, and using the restroom. It takes about a full week for the swelling and bruising to go away. Patients will need to limit activities for about 2-3 weeks. This includes exercise and sex.
The average cost for a pubic lift is $2,000 - $3,500. This cost will increase if a combination of procedures is included (such as labiaplasty).

Pubic Lift FAQs
A pubic lift creates a flat, sleeker pubic mound. Because the incisions are located within the natural crease of the pubic area, scarring is minimal. Our cosmetic surgery team provides detailed incision treatment instructions. This includes the protocol for when using the restroom, having sexual intercourse, etc. where fluids may interrupt the healing process due to infection. Our instructions will outline how to keep the incisions clean and sterile.
Is This Painful?
A pubic lift will result in some moderate discomfort, but it is not painful. The discomfort occurs when trying to do normal daily activities such as sit and squat. During the initial healing phase, prescription antibiotics and painkillers will help moderate discomfort and speed the recovery process.
Will the Fat Return?
Once liposuction has removed the fat cells, new cells are not created. It is a permanent removal. However, the remaining fat cells that were not removed can get bigger if additional weight is gained. It is recommended that patients considering this surgery be as close to their goal weight as possible. In addition, it is also recommended that all pregnancies be completed before having this surgery.
Patients will see the results of this surgery immediately. While swelling does occur after surgery, it is temporary. Most patients will see their full results within 4-6 weeks. A flatter, more toned pubic area allows patients to wear tighter fitting clothing without worry, as well as enjoy simple activities such as running and sexual relations.
